Africa: GEOGRAPHY IS DESTIY

As I was reading all of our textbooks and The Demon in the Freezer by Richard Preston, I realized how much geography has impacted Africa.
  • The disease, deadly I might add, Ebola Zaire began along the Zaire river in Africa, where the disease was able to remain for a long time and kill before it could move. Africa's rivers don't connect and have rapids, so people couldn't travel in direct routes and had to go all over to reach their destination. People infected with Ebola who didn't know it took these routes that were out of the way and in turn infected many of the people living in these areas. Also, because of their traditional behavior, the people of Africa want to carry around the body of their dead relative around the village so that its spirit could move on, however, this was not possible because Ebola spreads quickly. Biology really is related to geography and history!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Other factors: tsetse flies, sahara desert, kalahari desert, different terrains, etc.

Buddhism, Christianity, and Judaism

All 3 of these religions are similar and different.
Similiar- all spread over major routes, all had 1 main founder who was a "prophet" or who mainly spread it in the beginning, all had sacred texts J+C 10 commandments, Jesus, God, Moses, Abraham, C+B salvation, missionary, monuments

Difference- J+C v. B-In Buddhism there is no gods, only prophet
different methods of spread

i believe that we have been most influence by Greco-Roman culture and civilization. First of all, our government is a representative democracy.

Presidential Race

Which candidate is appealing to the people the most?

THe US follows the Path of Usually Empires

I DEFINITELY AGREE WITH HANNAH in saying that the history of the United States is heading down the same path as the Roman Empire. As of recently, the population of the US has been upset with the decisions and actions made by our government, just like the Romans were displeased with the oppressiveness of their rulers. Along with this, many immigrants are coming to America and taking away jobs from US citizens, a huge problem just as it was with slaves taking away the jobs of the farmers in Rome. Will the US soon fall? I'm not 100% sure, but it seems likely.......

Question of the Week?

Which classical civilization do you feel we have been influenced the most by?

The funny thing about democracy...

I find it very interesting that the Athenian's saw themselves as the greatest and most educated because of the fact that they created democracy. In fact, the democracy that took place actually contradicts the meaning of democracy in that all slaves, foreigners, women, and children were not citizens, and therefore, they had no say in the decisions made amongst the society. men used this as an opportunity to gain power and take control, and I find it ridiculous that according to our records, no body realized this. However, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato and their followers acknowledged this later on, and did not support democracy. this is also interesting because they reject the government that is giving them power amongst society.
